Epoxy Flooring Built for Oak Ridge's Garages, Homes & Workshops

Ascent Epoxy Greensboro installs epoxy and polyaspartic floors in Oak Ridge, NC, a small town on the west side of northern Guilford County about 16 miles and 23 minutes from downtown Greensboro. It has the highest home values and the highest share of detached single-family houses of any town we serve in the Triad, and almost everyone here owns their home. Most houses still predate 2010; newer homes are increasingly built on slabs, and the attached garage is a slab either way.

Stokesdale and Colfax are next door, and Blake's crew covers all three. Stokesdale and Colfax have both seen a larger share of new building since 2010 than Oak Ridge itself, so a fair number of slabs on this side of the county are only a few years old and still bare builder concrete.

Whether the house sits over a crawlspace or on a full slab, the garage floor is the concrete that gets driven on, and a Piedmont year works it from both sides. Summers are long and humid, which is an installation problem: a coating laid on a slab that is cooler than the dew point will not bond the way it should. Winters are mild but bring freezing nights, freezing rain and the brine NCDOT sprays on the roads before a storm, and all of it comes home on your tires. On bare builder-grade concrete that is how you get dusting, tire stains and, after a few winters, scaling.

Full-flake systems are the usual pick for a daily-driver garage, solid color with an anti-slip additive suits a detached workshop or equipment bay, and metallics show up in front-facing shops. Every garage and commercial install starts with a free ASTM moisture test and a diamond grind, never an acid etch, and finishes with a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat that brine sits on top of until you rinse it off.

Most two-car garages are one day on site. With the polyaspartic topcoat we install, walk-on is usually within hours and vehicles typically the next day or two, depending on the system and the weather; epoxy-only systems need several days. You get the exact walk-on and drive-on times for your system in writing before we start, and your garage floor comes with a written 25-year warranty you can read before you sign.

On the estimate visit we measure the slab and check every crack and control joint, and the visit ends with a moisture reading, samples and a written, line-item quote before we leave the driveway. If you want to see a flake or metallic finish on a garage your size first, the Floor Studio on this site does that with a typical price range. See the full range on the Ascent Epoxy Greensboro home page.

High-value homes, bare builder slabsOak Ridge has the highest home values of any Triad town we serve, and nearly every house is detached single-family. New or old, the garage came with bare concrete; we grind it, repair it and coat it so it matches the rest of the house.
Free ASTM moisture testEvery slab is tested to ASTM F1869 or F2170 before we coat, and the written quote shows what a moisture-mitigation primer adds (about $1 per square foot) if the readings call for it. No guessing, and you see the numbers.
Humidity-timed installsLate May through September is muggy season in the Piedmont. We measure slab temperature against the dew point, start early and match the product to the day so the topcoat cures hard and clear.
Brine, salt & scalingFreezing nights, freezing rain and pre-storm brine are a normal Triad winter. Tracked-in salt scales bare concrete over a few seasons; a polyaspartic topcoat keeps it on the surface, where it rinses off.

Epoxy Flooring Questions From Oak Ridge Homeowners

Straight answers on garages and workshops, newer versus older slabs, the three coating chemistries and cost.

Yes. Ascent Epoxy Greensboro coats garage and workshop floors in Oak Ridge, NC. On most Oak Ridge homes the garage is the main job, and a detached workshop or shop slab gets the same process: a free ASTM moisture test, a diamond grind, crack and spall repair, a base coat, flake or solid color, and a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat. For a workshop we recommend an anti-slip additive.

The process is the same; what prep turns up differs. A newer builder-grade slab is usually bare, dusty and tire-stained but sound, so the work is grinding and sealing. An older slab more often needs crack and spall repair and sometimes a moisture-mitigating primer. The moisture reading and walkthrough on the estimate visit tell us which you have, and the written quote is priced to match; the full ASTM moisture test runs before any coating goes down.

For most garages, an epoxy or polyurea base coat with a polyaspartic topcoat. Epoxy is the thick, strong base that bonds to ground concrete. Polyurea is a faster-curing base used for the same job. Polyaspartic is a type of polyurea used as the topcoat because it is UV-stable, so it will not yellow in a sunlit garage, and it stands up to brine, hot tires and chemicals better than epoxy alone. A one-day install almost always means a polyaspartic-topped system.

Typically $2,000 to $4,000 for a standard flake garage with a polyaspartic topcoat, which works out to about $4.50 to $8 per square foot depending on slab condition and finish. Solid-color epoxy runs about $4 to $6 per square foot and metallic or quartz systems $8 to $12 and up. Crack and spall repair adds $100 to $500 or more, and a moisture barrier about $1 per square foot. Those are typical ranges, not a quote; the written quote comes after a free on-site visit. See the Greensboro garage floor cost guide for what slab age, grinding and crack repair add.
